integrate shockwave swf file in swiki

in order to integrate an internet-capable animation like Flash, Director, Quicktime, etc. in a Swiki page, some basic HTML-editing is necessary. The best to do this, is to use extensively the 'copy/paste' tools of any computer....

So, how to do ? :

  • A. from Flash or director export a so called 'shockwave' file (which has the file-extension swf) and a HTML-file. take care, that the file itself has the extension '.swf' included into its filename. eg. the file is called cup_layout-01.swf.
this is best done by selecting 'publish'/'veröffentlichen' in the 'file'-menu

  • B. a couple of files are now written into the directory where the .fla-file is located.... These files are a .swf-file and a .html-file (in our case the files are called: cup_layout-01.swf and cup_layout-01.html

In order to integrate this swf-file cup_layout-01.swf into a swiki page (eg. on your personal swiki page) you use the capabilities of swiki to enter direct HTML-code:

  • 1. you press the 'upload'-button on top of the page where you want to integrate the animation cup_layout-01.swf. select the file and upload it.

  • 2. when clicking on 'view', you don't see the animation yet, but a blue hyperlink to a file meine-flash-animation.swf is at the bottom of the page....
  • 3. open now in a simple Texteditor (like notepad (on Windows systems) or SimpleText?) the cup_layout-01.html-file.
  • 4. look for the text-passage where the <EMBED> command is used. Seperate this text-part, and add before the syntax the simple command:
<HTML> with the brackets, and after the syntax this one: </HTML>

  • 5. back on the swiki-page, you get the socalled URL (the internet-address) of your uploaded animation:
on windows computers right-click on this link, and copy this link's URL to the 'clipboard'. On a Apple Macintosh keep clicking the mouse for a longer time, a menu appears, choose 'copy link' in order to get the link's URL. The URL is something like: http://swiki.arch.ethz.ch:8000/CAAD-Extern/uploads/811/cup_layout-01.swf
flash_copylink-location.1.gif

  • 6. back in your text-editor you change the addresses of the animation.... this is simply done by overwriting the address once after the text <EMBED src=". copy after the "-characters the address you previously got as URL, eg. http://swiki.arch.ethz.ch:8000/CAAD-Extern/uploads/811/cup_layout-01.swf
  • 7. now you mark the whole text from <HTML> down to </HTML>, copy it, and paste it into your swiki-page. save it, and the animation should be visible.

  • 8. the shockwave-animation is now successfully integrated
