Toni Kotnik

Traditional theories of cities have construed them as highly centralized and treated them as static systems in equilibrium, in which their parts are coordinated into macrostructures. But this is changing. The systemic view of cities is rapidly gainig ground and with it the discernment that the morphology of cities can be understood only from their most local, decentralized level. Key elements in the spatial dynamics of urban growth involve the available space within which growth takes place and the aging process of development associated with that growth. tttttttttttt   In order to understand this process better, Michael Betty has suggested in his book Cities and Complexity a model based on an analogy between the process of converting land from nonurban to urban and the idea that an individual becomes infected with a disease and then recovers. Using this type of model one is able to study the growth patterns at the margin. That is this form of simulation enables some insight into the mechanism of urban growth on the periphery of cities, i.e. to the process of land conversion and the generic phenomena of urban sprawl.

Benjamin Dillenburger

With the use of genetic algorithms a floorplan of an office-building should be generated. For the experiments, this buildingtypology is reduced to following functions: officespace, hallway, and the cores. All offices must have sunlight and must connected via hallway to at least one core. The quality of the floorplan depends on the relation between the GenericOfficeGenericOfficeGenericOfficeGe   officespace, and the total area of the building. The program starts with an randomly created floorplan and tries to optimize it. it does not find the best solution but delivers a variation of good ones.
the first versions of the program are based on a grid- system, the latest work in an more flexible geometry.

|Delivery of information with light is looks quite limited.

However we can add several another concepts to the light which is a color, frequency of

blinking, arrangement of color and speed of light’s movement.

Claudia Fuhr

“Good intuition, the scientists often say, is superior to logic, in dealing with architecture, however, that is not the case at all.” (Form Finding, M.S. Watanabe in Arch+159/160). Architecture is again moving away from the abstract glass structures of the 1990s which sought to achieve a state of GlazedSkinGlazedSkinGlazedSkinGlazedSkinG   immateriality, towards a new sensuality. Evolving a new post and rail construction, the architect can play around, remix and optimize the rail sections position of the façade, providing a stimulus for building design in the process.
