For the four new stations of the Hungerburg furnicular in Innsbruck approx. 3'000 meters of customized polyethylene (PE) profiles are needed in the roof construction. Those are used to connect the doubly curved glass cladding of the roof to the steel ribs of the underlying structure. Since the roof surface is a doubly curved free-form, the profile constantly changes its shape while following the ribs, resulting in 4'000 individually shaped PE parts.

designtoproduction generates the geometry of those parts directly from the 3D-CAD data of the roof surface and the ribs, optimizes them for production on a 5-axis CNC-mill and exports the G-code for the machining.
